Weekend: Christmas Fairs, Earth Market and urban dance

Christmas is coming, so there are lots of places in the city you can visit in the city this weekend where you will find Christmas fairs with stalls selling traditional products such as nativity scenes, Christmas trees and lights, as well as sweets, craft, jewellery and gift stalls. This Saturday, at the Jardins de les Tres Xemeneies in Poble-sec, you will also find the Earth Market, with kilometre zero products. And for those of you who like the performing arts, the Hop Festival is a chance to discover the latest urban dance trends.

Weekend: Christmas Fairs, Earth Market and urban dance

Go to the Weekend website!

Besides the Santa Llúcia and Sagrada Família fairs, there are Christmas fairs at the Marquesina de la Via Júlia, Plaça de Sarrià and Diagonal – Les Corts. Young children can also make a tió gegant poop at Santa Llúcia.

Those of you who like nativity scenes have two options this Christmas: visit an innovative one composed of raised white figures in Plaça de Sant Jaume, or go to the Museu Frederic Marès entrance in Plaça de Sant Iu, and visit the traditional scene that the Barcelona Nativity Scene Creators Association have set up.

Earth Market

From 10 am to 4 pm this Saturday, in the context of eco-gastronomy, the Mercat de la Terra will be at the Jardins de les Tres Xemeneies, in Poble-sec, to promote kilometre zero products. There you’ll find local, seasonal produce, obtained from traditional processes that respect the environment, at a fair price.

The Earth Market will also be putting on cookery demonstrations, activities for children at the Slow Kids space and live music.

Urban dance festival

Between 9 and 17 December, Mercat de les Flors is holding the Hop Festival, a project promoted by the El Generador Association, which has been promoting contemporary performing arts creation in the field of urban dance since 2011. The Hop Festival is a platform for research, creation, exhibition and dissemination, a meeting point for dancers who specialise in urban dance to show their artistic work to a wider audience.

There will be international companies and festival representatives from around the world at this year’s festival. The Compagnie par Terre will be performing at Mercat de les Flors on Saturday 9 December, in the evening, while on Sunday morning (11am to 1.30 pm) there will be a family hip-hop workshop, a graffiti sketching workshop and a youth display of urban dancing.

Prior to the festival, during October and November, the “Creation Paths” project was carried out at city civic centres, with exhibitions and presentations of artistic works.
