The Tibidabo Express attraction, a western train ride which follows a route through woodlands, now includes virtual reality goggles. The new feature makes the park the first in Catalonia to offer a virtual reality attraction. Other new features this season include a new nightly mapping show, interactive fountains and the return of the plane.
The Virtual Express is up and running, demonstrating the way the park is opting for innovation. The attraction uses pioneering VR technology, the first time it has been used in Catalonia, transforming the existing train ride. The physical circuit now combines with a virtual ride packed with sensation and excitement.
Visitors will also be able to enjoy other new features at the park this summer. A new end-of-day show rounds things off daily in Plaça dels Somnis and includes lasers and mapping. The iconic plane has also had a re-fit and is up and running again, while the interactive fountains complement the existing range of water attractions at the park, particularly popular among users in the summer.
Record number of visitors
So far this season the amusement park has had 376,961 visitors, 8% up on the same period last year. “The rhythm of visitors continues to grow and the record number of visitors for July has been broken”, explained the Second Deputy Mayor, Jaume Collboni, during the inauguration of the new attraction. Over four thousand young children have also enjoyed free visits to the park as part of the ‘Tibidabo solidari’ initiative, the aim being for that figure to rise to nearly seven thousand children in vulnerable situations by the end of the season.
Summer opening hours
The park is open daily from 11 am to 11 pm in August. Visitors have different transport services available to them which are eco-friendly and adapted for people with reduced mobility. View the options available here.
