Support for guaranteed income to help people live in dignity

Full Council has approved an institutional declaration backing guaranteed income for citizens and pledged to work in line with the law passed by the Catalan parliament following a popular legislative initiative which collected more than 120,000 signatures.

The City Council thus takes on the commitment to work within the law set out in Act 24.3 of the Statute of Autonomy of Catalonia and aimed at ensuring minimum incomes so that families in situations of poverty can live in dignity.

The institutional declaration specifically calls for the law on guaranteed income to be implemented in its entirety, and as a result, the generalisation of compatibility with income from part-time work which is below the Catalonia Adequate Income Indicator (IRSC). The declaration also calls for the IRSC to be updated as soon as possible, as it has been frozen since 2010.

The Mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colau, the Deputy Mayor for Social Rights, Laia Ortiz, and representatives from the different municipal groups received representatives from the Promoting Committee after the full council meeting.
