Traditions. Sant Jordi sees the streets fill with flowers and books in a people’s celebration. Nearly 5,000 stalls will be selling books and roses this year.
Festivities and culture. The city will be showing the wealth and diversity of the Romani culture, with official and festive acts to mark International Roma Day.
Memory. The plaque unveiled in the Horta-Guinardó district is the tenth of its kind to be put up since October 2015, remembering the residents of Barcelona’s shantytown neighbourhoods.
Culture. The Barcelona Districte Cultural project offers two editions this year (in May and June and again in the autumn) and includes 20 arts proposals and 88 performances at 13 local cultural centres.
Entrevista. We spoke to Gulnar Hajo, a Syrian author and illustrator exiled in Istanbul. Hajo was the guest illustrator at this year’s edition of the literary festival for children and young people, Món Llibre.
Diversity. The motion, to be put forward in May’s full council session, is one of the actions linked to the plan to combat anti-Romani attitudes which is being drafted in collaboration with the city’s Romani entities.
International promotion. The Second Deputy Mayor strengthens ties with the Chinese region by signing an agreement with the most important official business promotion agency in the zone.
International promotion. An institutional delegation headed by Jaume Collboni is starting an economic and cultural visit to China to strengthen the international promotion of Barcelona.
Technology.Ten young artists have produced artistic creations around Barcelona’s ten city districts to show their vision of digitalisation and the transformational power of new technologies.
