In order to minimise disruptions to citizens, 49 different public works and 49 road laying projects are planned from July until mid-September to improve the quality of public space, services and infrastructures in the city. Work includes preliminary tasks to cover the Ronda de Dalt ring road along the section between Sant Genís dels Agudells and La Teixonera, eleven new bike lanes and six new bus lane sections, as well as work to improve accessibility to public transport and a series of works in streets and squares.
Work will begin at the end of July on the concrete foundations and wall planned for the central reservation ready to cover the Ronda de Dalt along the section between Sant Genís dels Agudells and La Teixonera, reducing traffic circulation from three lanes to two in each direction between exits 5 and 6.
Other action around the ring roads includes:
– Re-surfacing work on the Ronda de Dalt between exit 11 on the C-32 and exit 10 on the Ronda (19 to 20 August).
– Re-surfacing work on the Ronda Litoral in the Morrot zone, from exit 14 in the direction of the Besòs as far as access 12 in the direction of the Llobregat (4,6,11 and 13 August).
– Cleaning work in the tunnels of both ring roads, the nights of 26 June and 26 July.
Another important access road to be re-surfaced is Av. Meridiana, along the section between Av. Rio de Janerio and Pg. Fabra i Puig. Likewise, the Gran Via will be re-surfaced between Pl. Tetuan and C/ Marina, and between C/ Mèxic and Pl. Espanya.
More sections of bike lanes and bus lanes
In keeping with the objectives set out in the Urban Mobility Plan (PMU) for 2013-2018, and in order to boost mobility on foot, by bike and public transport, work will start on the construction of new bike lanes so that all citizens have one within 300 metres of their homes. New sections of bus lanes will also be created in C/ València, in Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, in Av. Meridiana, Via Augusta and Passeig Sant Joan, helping towards the roll-out of the final stage of the new bus network in two phases, one in the autumn this year and the other in the autumn next year.
Renewal of urban space and improvements in accessibility
In the next few weeks remodelling work in streets and squares will be completed, improving the quality of public spaces in various neighbourhoods in Sants-Montjuïc and Sarrià – Sant Gervasi. Improvements will also be made in the area around the Park Güell, such as shifting the overhead cabling in Baixada de la Glòria underground between C/ Verdi and C/ Mare de Déu del Coll and at the junction in C/ Sostres.
Work will also be carried out to improve accessibility to public transport for people with reduced mobility, such as the FGC train station in El Putxet, and access to the Barceloneta metro station (L4). An extra impetus will also be given to the work to adapt the Jaume I metro station (L4).
