Fines now given by the bus lane control car
The car operated by Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona takes photos of vehicles that are parked or waiting in bus lanes without authorisation. The goal is to improve the speed of bus services and road safety. The measure is part of the Pla Endreça.
The car will be circulating in areas where the most infringements of this type were detected in the trial period, which began on 4 March. Over the two-month trial, the car recorded sixty such infringements a day.
Fines range from 60 to 200 euros.
Information in streets
Over the coming weeks, a team of information staff will be handing out leaflets indicating the nearest loading and unloading areas to people parking or leaving vehicles in bus lanes.
Bus drivers have been calling for this measure given the consequences of vehicles stopping in bus lanes: slower circulation, danger in manoeuvring to get past them and difficulties for passengers when getting off at stops.
